The Cross-sectional Emergency Department (ED) of SISMANOGLIO General Hospital of Attika (Athens-Greece) is located on the ground floor of the N3 building/section and is an autonomous department in a Tertiary Hospital of the 1st Health District of Attika with more than 40,024 admissions annually (2019).

The mission of the ED is to treat patients with emergency health problems and to support the seriously ill patients .This advocates respect for the dignity and respecting patient’s rights.

The main tool of this management is the medical examination room for TRIAGE where classification of the severity index of the incoming patients is performed.
It is noted that arrival by EMS service (ambulance) does not constitute a reason for granting of priority (Government Gazette 874/Β/20-03-2012).

The Basic Medical Specialties that operate in the main vigil of the Emergency Department of SISMANOGLIO General Hospital of Attika (Athens-Greece), with the assistance and support of the other departments/units, are: Internal Medicine, Cardiology-Hemodynamics Department, Pneumonology, Surgery, Vascular surgery, Thoracic surgery, Urology, Opthalmology, ENT, Psychiatry/Child Psychiatry (if applicable), Hematology, Gastroenterology and Neurology.
The Emergency Department of the General Hospital of Attiki Sismanoglio actively participates in the on-call program of the 1st Health District and the Management of emergencies through National Health Emergency Operation Centre of EKAB/KEPY (ΕΚΑΒ/ΚΕΠΥ).
Our department has received several awards (2018-2019) for patients management and for effectiveness in mass disasters such as:
1. Silver Award "Effective Public Hospital Clinic Administration" (2018) Health Care Business Awards Health & Safety Awards.
2. Bronze Award "Staff Training & Awareness" for the "SISMANOGLIO": "The contribution of preparedness exercises in the preparation for dealing with emergencies at the Hospital (2019) Health Care Business Awards.
The SISMANOGLIO General Hospital of Attika (Athens-Greece) GHA Sismanoglio, has previously received certification according to international standards DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 as an Emergency Coordination Center in the Preparation, Implementation and Management of Hospital Emergency Response.
The following departments also have certifications according to the international standards in Quality Management Systems: EN ISO 15189:2012 Hematology Laboratory, DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 Blood Donation Department, EN ISO 15189:2012 Cytology Department, DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 Provision of Hospital Services Pharmacy/Pharmacy Department.

3. Patient Admission Office (ED) with electronic registration and issuance of the Evaluation and Nursing Intervention Sheet for ED patients.
4. Medical examination room for (TRIAGE) with electronic registration of specific specialty addressing.
5. Main resuscitation room and secondary resuscitation room.
6. Twelve (12) specialty examination rooms.
7. Minor Trauma Surgery unit.
8. ENT (ear-nasal-troat)examination room
9. Ophthalmology examination room
10. Short hospitalization Ward - Fourteen (14) beds
11. Ultrasound unit.
12. Diagnostic Imaging Department’s (Rx/US/CT/MRI/Interventional Radiology).
13. Infectious Disease Isolation Room.
14. Outdoor Mass Disaster Prevention Unit with outdoor Bathtub zone and equipment of Personal Protective Equipment.

The Training Program of the Emergency Department of the SISMANOGLIO General Hospital of Attika (Athens-Greece) is in accordance with the training time requirements of the Specialty of Surgery, Internal Medicine (four months) and Anesthesiology (two months) in Emergency Medicine-ED, of the residents (FEK 4138/2018 and Sheet No.2382/2018). |
